What happened if your hosting crashed?

Posted in Internet Business on January 31st, 2010 by Gerald Lum – Be the first to comment

Have you ever encounter your host crashed and you lost everything in your website? If not, you better be prepared for the worst! I have been using my old host for about 2 years and I can confidently say that the service and support is excellent. However about 3 weeks ago, while I testing my new website ( refer to my Internet business  ),  I got these error message on my website

I encounter this error for all my websites today.
error code :
“Warning: Unknown: open(/tmp/sess_7c21be6a0ba68690ca90e886756b53e1, O_RDWR) failed: Read-only file system (30) in Unknown on line 0
Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct () in Unknown on line 0 “

From the host who give his best support

Hi Gerald,
Sorry for the delay. I had to wait for the data center to remount the drive so that I can check and restore the db. Turned out that it was corrupted there as well so that’s why the tables did not make it during the transfer. Sorry but those few tables cannot be restored – it’s in the bad section of the drive.

I thought its just another error from the hosting and can be solved by the host easily. Wrong. Fatal error! The data is lost at the corrupted server! The worst of all is that I did not backup my file. My heart sank. I was just about to upload the latest completed files to my website and it happened. You cannot sue/blame/refund your hosts. I have to pay my developer to repair and do some of the missing data. I really appreciate his help and supports.

Lessons learnt :

  1. Backup your files every month!
  2. Choose a reliable host!

After searching and reviews by user, I have decided to use Hostgator. For the price of $9.95 per month, you get hell lots of disk spaces and unlimited domain names. Most importantly is the reliablity and upload time.

Be safe, backup now!

review site for my new membership plan

Posted in Internet Business on January 5th, 2010 by Gerald Lum – Be the first to comment

I have decided to include a review site for my new membership plan. I have been searching actively at the warrior forum and found out lots of internet marketers are hiring designer for minisites. Very few are buy review sites.

I have always wanted a pofessionally design review a long time ago. In fact I have even design my own review sites and make couple of hundreds buck before.

Review sites can help readers make descision and recommendation. Choose top 3 products, test them and write your reviews. If you cannot write, you can hire writer to write for a small fees.

I have engage a designer for to design a review site for USD67. This will be given to members who upgrade their membership at sponsoryourads.com. I will be giving them the html/css and psd file so they can edit freely.

I will still be getting one review/mini site for a more premium membership.

Creating membership and affiliate program

Posted in Internet Business, Personal on November 24th, 2009 by Gerald Lum – Be the first to comment

Recent has been a really bad month. My website project is delay. While 70% of the work is done, the 30% remaining which I thought is the easiest to get it done turn out to be the toughest. Membership sign up and the affiliate program are the remaining 30%.

The script that I have bought probably a year ago doesnt seem to suit my project. It required installation so its diffcult  for someone who has zero programming skills. I paid $80 for installation. Turn out it still need customisation. Its frustating. I contact the programmer but time is not on my side. I have been waiting for a about a month to start on the customise script for this project. I have spent alot of time and effort planning and changing this project.

The decision to wait or not to wait for the programmer took me a week. I’ve decided to start searching and asking for a more suitable membership and affiliate program. Easymemberpro probably is the next best membership and affiliate management program. But it is still not suitable.

While I searching the forum, I came across a comment that wrote ” the best affiliate script is to create your own. “  Why not? Designing my own affiliate program is the best and most suituable. I spend about 2 hours creating a static design. Will send to my programmer for quotation. It will not be as cheap as ready made script but at least it suit my needs.

2010 is going to an important year for me as I’m getting married. Need to kick start my project and focus on my wedding.

To be honest, I getting impatient. 2010 is going to be an important year for me and I really need to settle this project so I can focus on my wedding.

I just downloaded this new Twitter App
and it has already made tweeting a lot
simpler and less time consuming…

http://tweetglide.com

And the best part of it all is that by
using it, you actually get free traffic
that can grow viral pretty fast.

Yes, there is a built in traffic generation
feature that allows you to display YOUR AD
inside of the twitter app that ALL users will see.

Check out how it works here, then start using it:
